I discovered stoicism two years ago as I went through philosophical writtings and became curious in Marcus Aurelius work. I believe joining newstoa will help me understand and learn more about stoicism.

I thought I was the only Stoic. I first became interested in Stoicism through historical research on Kleomenes III of Sparta who attempted to reform the Peloponnese along with the Stoic philosopher Sphaerus. Also learned more about it through various trips to Greece. Stoicism seems the only good way to live and am dedicating myself to it.

Discovered Stoicism through Alexander Green's Book "Beyond Wealth". Overwhelmed by the thoughts of Marcus Aurelius. Look forward to applying stoic philosophy and principles in my life to become a better human being.

I have been interested in philosophy as a way of life for as long as I can remember. In 25 years moved in and out of Buddhism, Epicureanism, Taoism, Mysticism, Gnosticism, Transcendentalism, Existentialism but in all that time, I maintained a stoic lifestyle and have endeavoured to develop a virtuous character. I live in a small house. I do not crave wealth or status. I use humour to deflect insults and suffering. I am agnostic. I reason myself out of negative emotions. I stand up for what I believe is right.

I was introduced to Stoicism by reading "A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy" by William Irvine about 8 months ago. The Stoic arguments that we have to live by nature using reasoning and we need to focus on things which are up to us enlightened me. After that, I've explored the Stoic world, finally leading to this site.

One day as I was researching different modes of society on wikipedia i stumbled upon the article on stoicism, which in a matter of days led me to Marcus aurelius' Meditations. Too me it makes sense to take life as it is. I love what it advocates! Life is too short to be angry or wanting possessions
